Got to Riffe Lake at 0730 this morning and spent a few minutes talking to a couple of guys. They said they filled their boats Yesterday. The story of my fishing career. A day late and the wrong bait. Anyway the wind was blowing out of the East at about 15mph. So I stood around a little more and thought about Mayfield Lake as I have never fished it. Finally I decided to
head out against the advice of the other guys. I have alot of faith in the ability of my boat to hold water. Good thing too as I was pretty wet after about 100 feet out. I made my way to the East end all the while still thinking about going to Mayfield. I promised myself that if the wind didn't let up by 10 - 1030 I would go there. Right on time, the wind eased up at 1030. And started gusting at 1100. By this time though I was just being plain
stubborn. I did find some bass and caught 2 small ones but just couldn't keep the boat under control. So chalk me up for 2 regular smallmouth bass and one real ugly bass. I'll try to describe this ugly bass for you. It was about 15 inches long, real silver on the bottom and kind of dark blue-green on top with just a hint of red flush line in the middle. The tail had all kind of spots as well as the top of his head. He also had some little teeth as I
found out when I put the lip lock on him. Now some folks at the launch tried to tell that this was a silver..I know thats wrong though as I caught him on my most favorite in the world bass bait. Therefore it has to be a bass. Conculssion - I should have tried Mayfield.
