What a beautiful day for the lake trout opener! My son Dustin (age 11) and I decided to fish Ohop lake for the opener because It's a large lake, it's open year around and I knew it would not be CROWDED! We got kind of a late start (the boat hit the water at around 11-ish!)and then we made a full loop around the lake trying various lures until we finally found THE lure, and the sweet spot of the lake! The lure was a green wedding ring (size 10) and the sweet spot was......well... it's not too hard to find! Dustin started the day off by landing the biggest fish (12"!) and then we started landing one every pass. By four o'clock he had four and I had three so we decided to head home. We got to the boat launch and I proceeded to bring up the motor and so on, when Dustin asked if it was ok to continue fishing while I prepared us for landing the boat. I said 'Go for it!' so he switched to a perch colored Mepps spoon and landed his limiting fish on ONE CAST! I of course informed him that he was breaking all the rules by catching the biggest fish, the most fish, and the first limit! Whereupon he just beamed and replied 'Yea! Pretty cool huh!'.
