Had the opportunity to fish Coffeepot on Friday. After a morning snow storm, the weather cleared by 10:00. I was glad I made the trip out because I was greeted by sunshine for a couple of hours.
Given the water temp and the fringe of ice still around the shore I didn't expect the fish to be very active. I was right. In two hours of fishing I had one hard strike and two nice fish. The first fish of the day was a hard fighting 22 inch male in full spawning mode with kyped jaw and all. Half an hour later I landed a pretty 20 inch female that was more into head shaking then fighting but still was a lot of fun to catch. There were 3 other anglers out there during this time and they only reported one strike between them.
For the record I was fishing an olive and black wooly bugger trolled deep and slow with a full sink, type III fly line fed out till the backing showed. I was also using a heavy 8lb tippet as I know these fish fight hard.
