Bill Vetter and I made our annual pilgrimage to the eastside for the early opener last Saturday. Having had a slow(2 fish each)and cold day in Dusty, we decided to give Merry a go on Sunday. We've seen the decline of the Nunnally, Merry and Lenice chain over the past few years(and from the looks of the parking lots so has everyone else!), but had to give this once great fishery a shot. Got the tubes wet about 9am and fought the surface sludge for about an hour before a light breeze opened things up a bit. Noticed only a few rises despite an ample supply of chronomids at or near the surface. Managed only a couple of light takes on a bugger and decided to head west after lunch. Please tell me there are plans to rehab these lakes!! It would be a crime to let one of best trout fisheries in the state go to waste!
