Drove over to meet my Dad at Burke Lake (near Quincy) for the early season opener. It is kind old a family tradition. Go over every March for bad weather and marginal fishing. My Dad was there all week and had called and said the fishing at Burke sucked. Slow and small. The state's idea of "catchables" and mine are very different. 5" fish that can't even lift a egg
sinker off the bottom are pretty pathetic. Bit. I had promised my kids a fishing trip, so we headed over. We didn't even throw a line in Burke, but instead headed over the hill to try some of the little lakes. I figured that if we couldn't catch any fish we could at least get some hiking in.
Much to my surprise we found FISH! After about an hour of fishing we took home 6 fish the smallest being 12" the biggest about 16". No other people at the lake, it was great. My kids swore me to secrecy about the location and their secret power bait treatment (something to with rolling it in dirt).
Great weather, Great time with the kids, Great day!
