Fished north end of the lake for perch for a meat run for the Cajun
cooker that night and the freezer this winter. Tons of baitfish in the water and large trout and REAL big bass made several runs through the area in large numbers, jumping all around the boat from time to time. Having grown up near the lake I've always known that it's the perch champ of the state but it had been a long while. Well, they went nuts for jigs tipped with a piece of worm. My father and I threw back about 25 fish small to medium fish
and kept an even fifty. If you have some kind of sonar device just look for structure such as drop-offs or humps in 7-20 feet of water. They seemed to really prefer lighter colors, and yes, they HAD to be tipped with worm. Not eggs, not power bait, not smelly jelly; worm and worm only. The avg. size was excellent, most that we kept from a little less than 1/2 LB to about a pound. I will say that they were biting strangely, I had to lose about 8 or so before I got the knack of hooking them, strange for perch. Well, actually we did get a couple on the last of some crappy candy when the worms ran out, but after that, zilch. We're going back out again this week, one batch of perch & hushpuppies just didn't do it! If you don't have a fish locator just look for shallow spots about a hundred and fifty yards from shore or so. Good luck all!
