Dean and I checked out American lake first thing in anticipation of pulling out some nice fish like the 17 inch cutthroat I nabbed on a worm and bobber from the Tacoma Country Club swimming dock this same time last year, but this year American Lake is real high and per Bill at Bill's boat house it's a frigid 40+ degrees. So don't expect much till late April. So off we go to the warmer water of Lake Killarney. The city has just established a new park just off Wheyerhauser Rd. next to the World Vision blvd. that has provided access out to a nice point into the lake where we fished from the south side. Using a power egg and worm on a small gold trebble hook and a barrell sinker with about 25 inches below a rubberband stop I got action about 11:45am. with a beautiful 15 inch carryover rainbow that had taken the hook deep. In the process we dicscovered she was bearing a belly full of eggs, I wish now I would have practiced catch-n-release. There were 5-6 boats working for bass and trout and I saw (1) 8 incher taken. Some boys on a private dock on the south in were claiming an 18 incher. But the day was warm and beautiful the way we like it.
