I was the only one fishing off the dock at Five Mile Lake. Usually the people I see out there are fishing for trout, but crappies really like to hide out right underneath the dock on the south end. I was using worms, but didn't seem to be getting much in the way of results. So I switched to a smoke with metallic green & black flake 1/32 oz tube jig, fished under a bobber about a foot down. I was fishing deeper, and not getting many bites, until I caught one and happened to leave the jig dangling over the side in the water. As I put the fish I'd caught in the wire fish basket, the sound of loud splashing brought me running back to the rod. A 10 inch crappie had grabbed the jig and hooked himself! I shortened up the depth and started catching them left and right. I must have caught at least 30 crappies, mostly smaller but still a few good ones. Hope to go back tomorrow and do even better!
