Arrived at the lake 3 PM, set up camp and ventured onto the
lake. My friend Jim and I have in the past did this trip in
October, but it was required that we do it at this time. It
was lightly raining. We both are fly fishermen and used that
equipment primarily. Jim was using a G Loomis 8'6" rod 5wt.
w/ a fast sinking (III) fly line. The fly of choice was an
olive woolybugger. Jim caught the first fish within minutes
of beginning. It was a 12-13 inch fat bodied Brown. I was
using a 9' Fly Logic rod with matching reel. My line was only
a sinking II. It was determined after only catching a few fish
to Jim's many fish that the line (II) was not getting down
deep enough. Jim had another rod that his friend Bob gave him
that had a type III sinking line which I used with better
success. The first 2 days made for very good fishing. Saturday
and Sunday the lake was flat and weather was very warm.
Consequently we worked much harder for the fish we caught those
two days. All in all we had an excellent adventure. We caught and
released 65-70 trout. Fish Lake really turns on in October, especially
when the winds sweep across the surface and drift fishing is a
lot of fun and very productive. Thank you Jim for being my
friend.
