I went out for the lakes opener yesterday to Clear Lake in the hills south of Wenatchee. The lake is a pretty little piece of water covering 5 acres with plenty of bank access. The lake is planted every year with hatchery rainbows and a few survive into a second year. There is also the occasional brook trout to be found in the lake that has managed to be part of a small, self sustaining stock.

With me was my wife, Michelle, and my almost 2 year old son, David. Arriving at the lake we saw only about a dozen other anglers. A small group for the opener, especially since the weather was perfect with the sun shining, temp at about 70 degrees, and no wind. I suppose I should not have been too surprised. The lake can be kind of "hit and miss" fishing wise and there are times following bad winters or during wet springs that the WDFW cannot get to the lake to stock it for the opener.

On this day, however, we were pretty blessed. This was not a day for fancy fishing, just a day to catch fish for the frying pan. With that goal in mind, power bait on egg hooks was the strategy that worked for us. In two hours we had caught our limit of 10 fish, which included one chunky holdover rainbow of about 11 inches and a brook trout of about the same length.

It would be fair to say that all three of us had a great time, and my son definitely enjoyed holding the fishing pole with a trout on the end! I hope all of you did as well on your last family outing. If anyone needs any information or directions to fishing in the Wenatchee Area, drop me a line!
