Another great opening on Clear Lake this year. I showed up mid-afternoon with my wife and toddler. In a little under two hours we both caught our limits of trout. Of the 10 fish caught, we only kept two. The others we released and using single barbless hooks on a spoons (Krokodile perch or gold and red), we lost just as many or more as we actually landed.
Some friends of ours were also there with their kids. They also limited in 1 to 2 hours time using either power bait or a combination of spinners/ spoons. It wasn't too terribly crowded. There were about 2 dozen plus people fishing when we arrived at 3 PM and only about a dozen left when we called it a day shortly after 5 PM.
The other Wenatchee Heights lakes also did well on the opener, according to the fish sample counts published in the Wenatchee World Newspaper today. Lily Lake averaged 3 fish per angler and Beehive Reservoir averaged 2.6 fish per angler. Of the fish being caught at Clear Lake, I can say I saw mainly planted rainbow trout of 7 to 12 inches and some self-sustaining brook trout of 6 to 7 inches long being caught throughout the time I was there.
All in all, a fun day for the family!
