Went fly fishing at fish lake.....and yes it was windy(Sept 9th).
Actually my wife & I tried perch during the daylight hours with minimal success. Scott West (cove resort) said if you had "periwinkles" you could "up" your catch considerably. It was still a good time nonetheless. We love this area and my wife has known Scott for decades , great folks! The evening finally came and we started to see fish working the surface. I got my fly rod ( and old bamboo / it likes to cast my 7 weight type 3 full sink uniform sink line just fine) and started fishing. I started with that outfit because it gave me an "edge" against the wind. The wind out on the main lake was to radical so we fished the "cove area" although you could still see fish on the edge of the rough stuff. My wife caught a bow off the dock on the bottom
with a worm , but I continued flailing away. I finally started to get
some grabs and then managed to hook a couple of 11"& 12" bows. I was using a fly (I tie myself ) that looks like a cross between a brown "doc spratly" & a chironomid' ( tiemco 200r #8). As soon as the fly hit the water I began stripping it in, faster than I would normally do just because I did not want the fly to sink too much. I cant wait till the fall and than its time for browns' .
