Fished the lake today for the second day in a row. The kokanee fishing is RED HOT at Yale and Merwin, two lakes on the North Fork Lewis River waterway. I chose Yale because I have heard that the kokanee tend to be bigger in this lake. I arrived rather late in the morning yesterday (around 10 a.m.) due to problems with my boat trailer. I began trolling with a Ford Fender and a nightcrawler very close to the boat launching area. Within minutes I had my first kokanee on, a nice 15 inch fish with chrome sides. Since I only had two hours two fish I was only able to land four fish but lost a few others. The bite was hot so I went back today with the family, only to get rained out BIG TIME by a summer storm after catching one fish. Oh well, maybe next time. By the way, if you plan to fish these lakes, BE FOREWARNED: they aren't cheap! $8.00 fee per day if you have a boat. But if you hurry it may be worth it since you will catch probably as many Kokes as you would like.
