Battle Ground Lake is the easiest lake to fish, that I've ever tried. I live only about a couple miles from the lake and fish it often. Today I caught about a dozen and a half brook trout on a small jig. Only a handful of local fisherman know about this technique for catching trout. It never fails to yield a limit. The jig is a 1/16oz jighead, with the fat end of a plastic worm. Color depends on the weather conditions, but brown never seems to fail. Fish the jigs on the North side of the lake on the bottom, working them to the surface. You will pick up the occasional bass with this method depending on how shallow you fish. Several broodstock trout (over 20") are taken with this method also. Baits that work well are worms fished on a light leader along with powerbait fished on the bottom. Battle Ground Lake is now open year round and offers excellent fishing in the fall. Brook trout run from 11"-18", and rainbows run from 8"-14" on average, with jumbos and broodstock trout running from 18"-29".
