Looking for some simple perch fishing, I headed to the nearest dock and flipped a Texas-rigged piece of worm over the side. The conditions were windy as hell, lots of waves churning up the bottom of the lake along the bulkhead that formed the side of the dock I was fishing on, but sunny and warm in spite of the wind... I lifted my rod tip to move the bait and found myself setting a size 2 hook into the jaw of a smallie! 4 lb test and an ultralight rig made this an even struggle, one which the fish eventually won by slipping the small hook and disappearing into the shallows. However, now that I knew what I was up against, I managed to hook 5 more smallies and land 3 total (smallest 13 inches, largest 16 inches) which made a good meal for me and my sweetie.
A quick note: I was fishing in less than 4 feet of water, on the side of the dock that was getting slammed the worst by the wind driven waves... Read whatever you need to from that little tidbit of info.
Tight Lines!
