My neighbor and fishing buddy, Mike LaCombe, left Port Orchard at 1:30 AM. Arrived at Coulon Park about 2:45 and launched-- no other angler activity but there were a few rigs parked in the lot. Started fishing the west side of Mercer Island about 4:20 (legal start time). We were fishing red hooks and doger setup with out a down rigger. Counted pulls from reel to first guide to know how much line was out. Trolled with line at 45 degrees so by multiplying the line out by .707, we knew how deep we were trolling. Fished until about 8:00 AM before we had the first hit. We netted Mike's first sockeye ever. At 9:30, I had the 2nd hit of the day and managed to net the fish before the hook fell out of it's mouth in the net. Fished until noon but those 2 hits were all of the action. Saw very few other fish hooked. Very slow fishing but a beautiful sunny, nearly windless day on the lake. Good fishing to you all.
