Some one submitted a report in which they described getting lots of small bites while fishing from shore. Even after reducing hook size, he was still unable to hang any of the biters.

Lake WA is swarming with yellow perch. I'm told they school according to size, so you were probably encountering a bunch of small ones, although they do move constantly and bigger ones will come along.

A size 4 hook is about max, and a size 6 or even 8 will hook more of them. They will take night crawlers, perch belly, and small cut baits. I'm told they will also take artificial if the baits are appropriately small. They are found along weeds anywhere from 5' or 6' deep up to perhaps 25'. Since they school, once you get on them you can really sack them up. I've heard reports of people fishing from boats, which of course allows you to move around and find them a little better, catching a 5 gallon bucket full in several hours.

There is no limit and they're rated equal to better than Walleye for eating. After not doing too well on Small mouth, a friend and I have caught 30 or 40 of them in an afternoon. They probably average around 10" with some running up to perhaps a foot or so.

My guess it's yellow perch that have been picking at your baits. I've had them bite the tail off a Yamamoto grub on a 1/4oz jig. My fishing companion refers to the small ones as ankle biters. Good luck.
