I took my two eight year olds fishing at the south end of Davis Lake Saturday morning, August 2nd, 2003. We fished from the shore. There is a large rock outcropping at the south end that drops off steeply into the water at some points and is more gradual at others allowing for some decent fishing opportunities. We fished with bobbers and worms, catching medium sized perch, sunfish, and small bass. I decided to try an underwater minnow lure and cast it three times over a bench drop off. The third time I thought I was snagged until the line began to zigzag back and forth. I had a decent sized bass on, around 3-4 pounds. Of course as I leaned down to take the fish off the hook, he gave a shake and broke my line. The last I saw of him he still had a good sized lure stuck to the side of his head as he swam away. Maybe I'll get him next time. At any rate, the few times I have fished this lake I have been amazed at the clarity of the water and the variety of fishing opportunities that exist. I will definitely be back for more of those bass. My son caught a good sized black crappie on another trip.
