Spring Lake is a 68 acre lake between Renton and Maple Valley. It is ringed by private homes and a large but undeveloped county park with a small boat ramp. Internal combustion engines are restricted. It gets to 35 feet deep in spots but much of the lake from the boat ramp south is shallow, ten feet or less. It is open year-round. The DFW plants it in the spring although there are a good number of holdovers and largemouth bass as well.
I fished there for about two hours this morning. It must have just been planted because everyone on the lake seemed to be catching fish. Rooster tails were working well for a pair of guys in float tubes. I caught and released five on a small silver and black floating rapala fished right on the surface. Other guys were using powerbait. All the fish I saw were 9-11" rainbows.
