The WDFW has planted DeCoursey today with 500 hatchery coho. I took my two boys out to try to catch a few of these fish. The limit is 5 coho, no size restrictions. DeCoursey is a juvenal only pond. No one older than 14 may fish it. We fished from 5pm to 6:15pm, using various small hotshots and kwikfish. The preferred method is to retrieve the lure slowly. There are a lot of fish swimming around, circling the dock, jumping out of the water. Very exciting for the kids. We had one fish follow James' lure and was about to strike when he pulled it out (too soon!). We saw one fish caught. It may be that the fishing will get better once these fish are settled down in their new home. The size of the coho looked good- I would estimate about 5-6 pound fish, way up from the size of last year's plants. F&WL had a press releases that stated they may plant up to 1500 coho which is a lot of coho for this small pond!
