I got to the lake at my usual time 2:30 p.m. I notice that there was a lot of algae on the water. I figured the fishing was going to be tough ,but thought I would give it a try. I got out my 7ft. Lurh Jensen ultralite pole on which I have a Penn 430ss loaded with two pound test line. My favorite and almost only lure I throw is a 1/8 ounce little cleo in silver or gold.( if you take off the treble hook and replace it with a size 8 or 6 Gamakatsu open eye siwash hook you will get better hook ups) I took my first cast of the day it was a nice one. I proceeded to ree my cleo in real slow and felt a familiar bump of a trout but was unable to set the hook or so I thought. I noticed my line was heading straight for me. I reeled my line till it got tight. I then saw this huge trout come jumping out the water trying to throw the hook. The big fish started peeling line off my 430ss like I hooked a speedboat. After about 40 minutes of fighting the fish I finally got it to the shore. The
fight was so exhilarating that my hands were shaking. Oh so I guess you want to know how big the fish was- it measured 23 1/2 inches and weighed an incredible 7lbs 6OZ. . Needless to say I took a whole bunch of pictures. I tried to release the fish but it fought so hard it rolled over whenever I put in the water. So to all you guys out there who say there is nothing in American lake maybe you should give it another try but this time fish slower.
