This lake is wonderful for starting fly fisherman. I like to take my 4 & 6 year old grandchildren
out in float tubes attached to mine. We troll Zugbugs, Damsel Nymphs, Chris Craws(my crawdad imitation),
leech patterns & Woolley Buggers on slow sinking fly line. We always catch fish. Many are small (8-14") but the
kids love it! I also enjoy using a Griffiths Gnat, Blue Dun or other small (size 14 or 16) dry flies during a good hatch.
Unfortunately, I have caught several people fishing illegally even though there is a large sign that states
"Fly Fishing Only". I've seen people use standard spinning or casting rod & reel, spinners, power bait,
& even a few miscreants use bobber & worm. This used to be very pristine and relaxing, but lately its been
inundated by loud mobs from the coast on holidays, weekends & much of the summer. Other fun lakes in the Republic
area include Fish, Ferry & Swan (Bows), as well as Ward & Empire (Brookies). However, the best fishing is from 13-Mile
to 30-Mile on the San Poil River, but you need a Colville Reservation license & its barbless, single hook catch & release.
