Decided I'd fish lake Serene today for the reopener. I've been looking forward to this all summer, So I hated to have to wait until 9:00 for my mom to get up so she could drive me and all of my gear. If It was up to me, I would have been out there at midnight. I picked up my first fish after about 15 minutes on the south side about 100 yards from the boat launch off of the lily pads. It was a 7 inch largemouth which took a 6 inch texas rigged plastic worm. I picked up my second fish In the cove on the south west side of the lake about an hour later off of a lily pad point on a Heddon Tiny Torpedo. The 16 incher made probably one of the most explosive top water strikes that I have seen in this state, practically inhaling the bait on the first twitch.. Way cool. My third and final fish came out from underneath a dock on the North shore about a half hour after the second fish. He nailed a 4" texas rigged pink and purple plastic worm. It was the largest of all, about 19".!
Put up a great fight. Talked to the angler who pulled the 8 1/2 pounder out of there last summer. Real nice guy. He caught a few also The bass quit biting when the sun came out of the clouds, so it was time to go home. All in all, a perfect day of bassin'. By the by, I talked to a waterfront home owner trout fishing off of his dock, who said that the lake's summer closure was because of a really bad problem last summer with midnight teenage beer parties at the launch. Don't ask me how closing a 3' gate can stop a bunch of drunk teens from having their way, but who knows, maybe.
