On Thursday, 7/20/00, my wife and I went over to Conconully
Lake for a little R&R. We took the car top boat in case
we wanted to fish. Thursday evening we drove up the upper
lake and fished from shore for a hour or so. The first
cast netted a 12" fish in about 30 seconds. My second cast
took about 45 seconds to hook another about the same size.
My wife asked what I was doing different than her? I told
her to use rainbow power bait. The catching slowed down
after that. We got a lot of bites and soon found out why!
Small, 5"&6" fish moved in and were on the bait so fast
that the nicer sized fish had no chance to get the bait.
We didn't fish again until Saturday. This time we put the
boat in and started trolling. That was slow, we picked up
one or two but did a lot better still fishing. Once again
rainbow power bait seemed to be the best but I keep trying
other baits and colors. The time I spent trying other baits
let my wife out fish me that day. (They like it when you let
them out fish you!)
We again took the boat out on Sunday morning, We were able
to boat seven nice 11" to 13" trout. And I'm sure that my wife
will want me to write that she out fished me again on Sunday.
Overall, it was a beautiful lake, plenty of fish, and both
of us recommend it.
