We went to Curlew Lake for the week of July 21st through the 25th to
stay and fish/swim and all around enjoy the heat. Tuesday was a hot day for
the lake as my friend and I hammered the trout all morning (catch and
release). We were trolling a fly tied by myself size 6 long shank and red
chenile on one and orange on another tipped with power bait using leaded
line. We found the with 3 to 3.5 colors of leaded line and 35 feet of
leader you could not get them to stay off the hook. Easy limits but with
the intense amount of heat each day gave after that it got a bit slower and
by the weekend it was getting to where we had to troll for quite a while
before hitting a fish. Evenings we went back out and used the same setup
and found it slow until around 8:00pm then it would turn up and really get
good until dark. Great way to spend a week as long as you can bear the
weather. We hit most fish in front of the state park but the bigger ones
were on the other side of the l!
ake out deep in front of Tiffany's resort. Try it and love it as you won't
be sorry. Just make sure you take as much sunscreen as you take power bait
in orange and "rainbow"...happy fishing.
