After months of hibernation posting other people's fishing stories, I finally managed to get out with my two boys to go fishing. Decided to try a new lake, St. Clair. The topo map looked so sweet with all those nooks and inlets to explore. The lake has an excellent boat launch and parking area, with very good handicap access. The lake is about 75% developed and the rest brush/trees. There is currently a 5 MPH restriction. We started by still-fishing worms in about 15 feet to try to locate some bluegills (pumpkinseeds) and ate lunch. The weather was great, 60s and diffuse clouds to sunny. After about a half hour of no bites my boys started to get figitity so we pulled anchor and began trolling. Picked up a couple 9" rainbows at the first large inlet north of the boat launch. That got the boy's attention and we moved on, under the bridge to the deepest part of the lake. We got a couple more, same size. As we headed back and approached the bridge, Matt's rod jerked back sharply. I handed it to him and he reeled in the fish. I was only half paying attention until the fish made a huge splash about 20 feet behind the boat. "Get the net!" I called out to James. Matt played the fish like a pro and we netted a chunky 4 pound rainbow. What a thrill! Matt let his younger brother catch the rest of the fish as we headed in, several more 8-10" plants. James's was totally into watching the pole and had a blast catching these little trout. It was a great day and felt really good to be back on the water. Oh, we were trolling thin blade spoons and super dupers on the surface, no weight, 20 yards back of the boat at a slow troll.
