We spent a couple of hours on St. Patrick's Day fishing the north end of Lake Lenore. The luck of the Irish was with us as my wife and landed and released six nice Lahontan Cutthroat trout during the afternoon.
We used spinners and spoons with barb less hooks on this partly cloudy afternoon. The lake was uncrowded and cool, having just gone ice free earlier in the week. The majority of the fish we caught were two pounds or less, likely plants from 1999 after the summer fish kill the previous year. However, I did catch one stout fish that I guesstimated at six pounds. This was the largest fish I have personally caught out of this lake, though I've seen bigger, and it put up a surprisingly good fight. After run after strong run, I was finally able to get it in on my light rod with six pound test and release it to test some other angler's mettle in the near future.
This lake could be a good bet in April and May this year!
