Got out for a couple of hours before the winds arrived with my friend Don and his son Karl, age 6. We fished the area off Hunts Pt towards Carillon Pt Marina from about 8:15 to 11:00, then looked around a bit because Karl wanted to go fast (and the action wasn't).
I had read Mike's report using sockeye gear, had a friend nail a large one Thursday on a Hot Spot and Coyote combo, and did well myself last year with the red plugs, so we started with one of each; a mini Hot Spot and army truck Kingfisher spoon at 65, "0" dodger and red hook at 60, and a red Flat Wart at 50.
At 8:25 we got a hit on the Kingfisher. I popped the pole off the downrigger and gave it to Karl. He reeled in a bright 4.5 pound hen silver, his first salmon ever! We got another hit at about 8:50 on the kingfisher, but the fish got off somewhere between my taking it off the downrigger and handing it to Don. Those were our only two hits and we didn't see any other fish caught near us, though there were 30-ish boats there and we marked lots of fish on the scope.
