After a great time doing catch and release on Lake Wilderness, Tony and I headed in for a quick lunch, picked up my little brother Josh (from Big Brothers of King County - email me for info) at bout 1:30pm and hit Steel Lake in my canoe. We had to work for our fish, but they came given time. The weather changed every 5 minutes from almost hail/thunder storms to bright and sunny. We picked up most fish trolling around with bait tipped wedding rings behind varying spinning blade setups. Since the lake is pretty shallow, we had to be careful, or all we'd catch is weeds. The fish here seemed to be a little bigger than those in Wilderness. We battled fish and rain for a few hours before calling it quits. At times, we were one of 2 or 3 boats on the water. The fishing dock was generally crowded. Looked like the morning crew did pretty good. We saw a few lake residents and their closest friends posing for pictures holding stringers full of fish and one yard was packed full of people doing a fish bbq. They had what looked to be a cloths line holding an amazing assortment of trout - many in the several pound class. Pretty cool.
What a great day.
