We went to Steel Lake this last Saturday and the 3 biggest fish we spotted were not around what you would consider traditional structure. They were in very shallow territory close but not in visible structure, one was so big that it had to swim sideways to run away from us!
Steel is a lake with very weird structure, parts of the lake appear to be manmade with a visible liner on the bottom that ripples in some areas. There are also some big cavernous holes on the shallow south-west side of the lake that appeared to be places where trees were uprooted. These held some bass that just came out of nowhere.
I became a top water believer last Saturday after Dex hooked into a nice fish that came out of nowhere in a super shallow area near the shoreline. The bass just came up and smacked it.
I caught around 10 bass all ranging in the 8-12" range using my trusty tail wagger and 3" senkos.
