Went back to my favorite spot on the lake to practice my cast with my fly rod, back behind the Bath House Theater. While the water is rather shallow just off the steps, it certainly is deep enough to dive into off the platforms. Besides, the platforms act as structure and shade for fish. And fish there were! Lots of big fat fish. Lots of CARP! I could see them lurking about where the sun slanted under the lip of the southern platform. Often enough one could hear them thrashing about under there or they would occasionally thrash the surface nearby. Ah, but the mystery of carp. Nothing I tossed at them would seem to draw them to strike. Then again, would even a 3X leader be enough to hold up against their broad-shouldered surge back amongst the footings of the platform? Probably not. And probably not with only a 6-weight rod. Any foolhardy takers out there?
