After having a good outing the Saturday before, my Dad and I went back
up to Lake Ki for another try on the 4th of July. We were on the lake
a little earlier this time, and there was fog all over the lake. We
headed out to the spot we had luck at on Saturday. Within an
hour we had a nice 13" rainbow trout on our stringer. The fishing went
a lot slower than Saturday, and after a while we saw others catching
fish at a different spot, so we pulled anchor and moved a small
distance. We caught a couple more within an hour or so. As the sun
came out and got higher in the sky, there was a lot more activity
around the lake (kids swimming, paddleboats, firecrackers being lit,
etc.) Right around 11:30am my pole took deep bend down. When picked it
up for second I thought I had a snag, then a fish really started
tugging and bending my rod. A few minutes later, we landed a
beautiful 16 1/2 inch rainbow that must have weighed close to 2
pounds. When the fish was cooked on the BBQ later that day, the meat
looked just like the color of sockeye salmon. It was delicious!
