I went fishing with my friend Ben at Williams Lake on opening day and it was perfect fishing. Ben and I caught our limit and did lots of catch and release all day long. We have fished there a couple times since, and the fishing has still been good to us. However, on our most recent outing (07/01/00), the fishing was very slow. I would guess that both the weather (getting hotter and hotter) and the large number of people fishing the lake are the cause.
We arrived about 8:30am (not too bad considering we left Seattle that morning) and began our fishing. We only caught one or two fish by mid-afternoon and were somewhat dissatisfied (but hey it's fishing - so it can't be all that bad). By about 5pm the fishing started to pick up. We ended the day about 8:30pm and were taking home about 7 trout (with two of them at about 1.5 lbs each). We did release a few smaller ones as well. Not too bad, but not quite like opening day. Williams lake is still our favorite place to fish.
The two bigger trout went after worms with power bait while we still fished. I think that the fishing from here on out is going to be best very early or very late in the day due to the warmer weather.
Good luck!
