Well, my friend Ben and I went fishing (for opening day) at Williams Lake on Saturday. The weather was really bad for just about the whole day, but we went anyway. We recently bought a Minn Kota trolling motor which we used for the first time (and boy-o-boy does it work sweet - no more rowing!). Rain, wind, and very cold weather didn't keep us away, and it sure paid off. We had a great results. However, the first two hours of the day we caught ZERO fish. Then things got hot. We started catching fish left and right. At the end of the day, Ben had caught 21 fish to my 18 (please note that we catch & release). About 25% of the fish we caught were in the 1.5 - 2.0 lb range. We did however keep one fish that day, a whopping 6.25 lb beautiful trout that Ben hooked and I ended up landing. It's the biggest trout either one of us has caught and man was it exciting. We took pictures of some of the trout (and of course the trophy catch) which I'll have to scan and send in.
Two of the fish I caught while fly fishing. I used a full-sinking line with 5ft leader, and fished only a scud and woolly bugger. (The conditions weren't very good for fly fishing so I only tried it for about an hour). The rest of the fish we caught with Mack's wedding rings and power bait.
We fished on Sunday (04/29) for about four or five hours, and we each caught 7 trout. Still using wedding rings and power bait (and still catching and releasing). Of the 14 we caught Sunday, two were in the 1.5 - 2.0 lb range. Again the weather was cold, windy, and a little rainy Sunday, but we still had fun fishing.
We'll be going again in a couple weeks and I look forward to better weather, and maybe more fly fishing.
Good luck fishing!
