I've been fishing W. Medical a couple nights a week all summer and have come away with the feeling that this lake has an endless supply of willing fins to satisfy the most demanding angler. From bait fishers from the shore to trollers and flyfishers, West Medical has proven adequate. The fish this time of year may not be everyone's idea of table fare, but it fits the bill if what your looking for is an enjoyable experience. I've had success with olive and tan damsel nymphs along weed beds and shallows. When warmer, slow trolling a black wooley bugger deep has yielded some fine 14" to 22" fish; mostly rainbow but a few large browns. During the evening hours, I've taken advantage of the furious feeding of juveniles with various patterns of caddis and mayfly, never forgetting the impressive midge hatches occurring daily. I find West Medical lake "fisherman friendly" and always willing to lend an angler a pleasant time. Remember to catch and release.
