I have just moved here from the south. Louisiana to be specific. The fishing there is for largemouth Bass fishing channel holes, trees and stumps mainly. Fishing is very different between the two states. Of course I found at Potholes very deep water and open water compared to the relatively shallow lakes of the south. I fished Potholes in the morning and found myself lost as to where to find fish. The wind came up very quickly with nowhere to hide. I started at the dunes and found no fish. Then ended up towards the dam. Throwing at the dam I did not get bit. I moved deeper to 15 to 20 feet and immediately got bit on a Carolina jig, with a 2 foot leader with a zoom watermelon dead ringer. Not a smallmouth fisherman I got bit about six times before figuring out how they where biting. In 1 1/2 hours I caught and released six smallmouths. All in the pound in a half range. My biggest being almost 2 1/2lbs. My 2 bigger fish coming off a texas rigged 7 1/2 zoom worm 1/4 oz weight. The wind finally took me off the lake. I find that Potholes may be a lake for me to learn well.
