Part of the adventure of fishing is trying new spots or going outside your routine. Well on Saturday I ventured up to the Northend of Lake Sammamish and launched my pontoon at The Landing Beach Park located on the East side of the lake instead of fishing the South end.
Launched at 7:45 and made my way South. I chased a few rising fish as I headed down the east shoreline. Got one take and then caught a unclipped Coho/Chinook out in front of the famous home on Weber Point. Headed about 2 miles in total south and found some gulls and the biggest hatch that I have seen since I started fishing the lake in the past few months but no fish so I headed back.
Got back at 10:45 and drove to Vasa Park to try and fish the Weather Buoy for the first time. Gulls everywhere but again little action. Only one Cutt for the day.
My set was slightly different today as I put a Redington Minnow (kids fly rod that is a 4 piece 8’ rod) and a SA Sonar full sinking line. I felt my Rio type 6 got me deeper as it just feels heavier so maybe this bright sunshine day I needed to be deeper than I was. Both fish were caught on a Denny Richards Seal Bugger which was brownish with a yellow/red tail. I’m going to try about 20’ of Flourocarbon as my leader for my next trip on Sammy and see if that helps some as it’s been slow for me the past few trips working the South end.
