Got off work early Christmas Eve and headed to Sammamish which is about 15 minutes away. Launched my pontoon at the beach closes to I-90 and was in the water by 12:30. I was off by 3:15pm to head for a dinner party.

After having a great day on Saturday I was pumped for more action. Brought my same 3wt fly rod with Intermediate Line so I would targeting the top 5’ or even higher when trolling at different speeds. I get there to a nice calm lake, but no birds in sight.

In all, I had three strikes and only one hook up and that fish popped off my barbless hook after 3 straight jumps as what looked to be a nice big CuttBow. That hook up was on my spinning gear as I was trolling fast to get to some birds that finally showed up. Had on a Black with Silver Flec Hot Shot Size 50. I also tried a wiggle fin with a very bushy Bugger style fly and had one small drive by. Still, no fish caught with this attachment.

Based on the weather which was clear and sunny, I felt that I brought the incorrect line for my fly rod. I was blinded by the hot bite from Saturday. One must be prepared for the type of conditions that are predicted and even sometimes be ready for changes out on the water. I should have brought my fastest sinking line as I heard some reports that the fish were deeper than the past week. Always learning and aI like that. Even though I was out just past two hours, it was my first skunk on the lake and maybe all year! Humbling I must say.

Still an awesome way to spend sometime instead of being at work!
