My son and I went to the Humptulips for our Christmas fishing trip today. We knew that the river was up and muddy, but we wanted to catch a Christmas steelhead. We arrived at the hatchery and only saw a few vehicles in the parking lot. As he was waking up from the long drive, I told him it's going to be tough fishing today. The smart fishermen stayed home. He just smiled and said there's a couple in there. Two guys were heading back to the parking lot as we're walking down river. Both of them said no fish. We started fishing the first spot for an hour or so with no take downs on bobber and eggs. I switched to shrimp and still nothing, so I moved down river, and my son went up. Ten minutes into the new spot bobber down, fish on. I landed her and marked her on the punch card. Shortly after, my son came down with a fish. He told me his fish tired him out and that he was done. We packed up and called it a day. We just used eggs and shrimp under bobber today. We left the river just after noon.
