With the weather not being too great the sound wasn't an option so decided to try some crappie (or whatever would bite). Haven't had much luck with crappie on this side of the mountains. Mostly went out to mess around with the lowrance fish finder. Anyways we targeted marks in 14 to 22 ft of water and did manage 1 bite. We used white crappie jigs tipped with some worms out of the back yard. Water was around 42 to 43 degrees, only out there from about noon to 3 or something like that. Not a bad day overall, until watching the last part of the hawks game.. haha.

I know of some south sound small pond crappie that usually wont bite worm. In a slow or still jig retrieve, they seem to prefer crappie nibbles, fake or real maggots. I inject nibbles into crappie tubes with a syringe or tip the hook with a tiny piece of gulp maggot. They'll sometimes even take a bare crappie nibble. I have yet to master the winter crappie. Im not a very experienced west side crappie fisherman either....

Thanks for the tips! I'll see what happens later this year and give them another go
