After scrolling through a few other good perch reports for Lake Washington a buddy and I decided to take our “observed” Veterans Day and see if there was any good fishing on Washington. Not disappointed would be an understatement to say the least. Launched out of the north end of the lake and found an area at about 40ft deep and almost right away marked a big school of “something “, dropped some lines down to see if there were any takers and it was non-stop catching for 4 hours. It was ridiculous how active the fish were, it did not matter what you put down it was getting bit. Weather could not have been better either. All in all an amazing day on the water.

Great day it was. Now to see if we can repeat anything like it next time.

Good times! Good Eatin'! You can repeat it just about any time of the year on the big lake. A bit slower some times, but still 'good' usually. Should be a bit bigger this time of the year too. I got one of these for those 30+ fish days. Works good!

Looking to see if anyone else has noticed this, but of all the fish I cleaned, over 90 percent were females. I have caught and cleaned a lot of different fish species over the years and have never seen that kind of disparity before.

I have never tried perch, I may have to change that. Curious, can they be caught with a fly rod?

You can catch anything with a fly rod it is my preferred way to fish when I can. The only problem is that as you can see on the fish finder the top of the school was about 25 feet which is a lot of “one Mississippi’s” waiting for full sink fly line to get down there. I would love to see if sometime during the year they come up to the top enough to make it practical.

In the summer they will be on the outside weed edges all around the lake. This is usually 10-15' of water.
