Been a long while since I posted. But, I enjoy reading other posts I thought I would try to add to the enjoyment.
My wife and I launched about 9:30am Sunday morning in overcast, rough water. The wind wasn't blowing the whole way down to the launch and when we got there the water was pretty rough. But, we decided to launch as we had the canvas cover and the buddy heater.
With the wind blowing down river, we decided to head up towards hawk creek outlet.
We started trolling outside the mouth a bit and started lines out. We ran three poles as that was enough for us to watch. Wife is still getting the hang of driving boat and wind didn't help.
All three lines in the water and middle pole bends down and starts to take drag. I'm reeling it in and wife is getting frustrated fighting the wind trying to keep the boat straight. She did a good job. I landed a nice 18". In the live well he goes and start to let the line back out.
Wife's pole goes off and she lands a nice fat one as well. I sort of decided I would let her land most of the fish while I drove while going into the wind.
Got up towards the front of the hawk creek outlet where it starts to narrow in the last big bay and we made a sweeping turn. Caught our 5th keeper trout and started trolling back out.
By the time we made it back down to the Columbia we had 7 keepers. I told her let's make another run up so we turned again.
We had 9 in the boat about half way back up and it went quiet for about a half hour. Made the turn again and her pole went off. But I kept trolling as you never know. Yes, it was a native so release to live another day. About 5 minutes later we landed our 10th and headed back.
Pink was the color. We used gang trolls with squider skirted double hooks.
Most fish were taken in 70-100 feet of water. We used leaded line. One pole has 50 feet of mono and the other were straight leaded. We had our best luck back 150'-175' on the line counters.
10 keepers, 2 natives released and only 2 lost at the boat. 4 hours of fishing. Not too bad, enough to keep you interested.
