Father-in-law was in town for a visit and it has been about a month since I have gotten out on the water, so we headed down to Lake Washington to get him into some fish. I knew heading in that daylight was not going to be in our favor so I opted to target a species that would give us the most action possible in a 2 1/2 hour window... Perch!

We launched out of Kenmore (what a mess... for those of you who haven't launched there recently) and sprinted down to Juanita Bay, which is my go-to area for perch. I spent five minutes search for a school thinking it might be hard to locate one and wow, what a school we found! We dropped anchor and my father-in-law brought up the first and biggest fish of the day, a FAT perch of just over 12". I couldn't get over the size of it, I wear a size 13 shoe and the fish was the size of my foot!

Action was hot the entire afternoon and we didn't pick up our anchor until it was time to head back up to Kenmore. I'm not sure how many total fish we caught. I said going in I would consider keeping any perch over 8" but soon found too many fish piling up so we only kept perch close to 10" and up. Wound up bringing home 26 fish and releasing a bunch.

Great day! Happy to get the boat out of the garage and happy to get into a nice school of fish.

Congratulations on your perchfest. Perch are fun to catch and awesome on the plate.

Queastion:

What's up with the Kenmore launch? We haven't splashed there since September and all was normal.

Thanks! Yes, they were plenty of fun, though it took a good while to clean them.

There is utility work going at the Kenmore launch, so half of the spaces to park are fenced off. Perhaps the most challenging part is navigating the lot as you can't simply loop around and back in to launch, you have to go in clockwise to the left of the bathrooms and drive past the launch to the right by the bridge then back up at an angle into the launch, or back up and then pull forward only to back up again straight into the launch. Not impossible but Kenmore is normally such and easy place to launch, this was a bit tricky.

Yes very thick! I hadn't caught perch like these before. Most it seemed we're female and fat with eggs. I felt a little bad after a while about taking what seemed like mostly females but the perch population in Lake Washington is huge so I think they will endure.
