Wanted to try something different so decided to hit up big lake for a couple hours before work. Got on the water at first light about 730. The fog was super thick and didn't burn off till almost 11, but the sun was shining through it. I decided to start on the far right flat from the launch and fish the pads. Visibility was about 2 to 3 feet. A big improvement compared to what clearlake was a couple days ago. I started by alternating between pitching a jig and throwing a crank and a drop shot. I worked my way all the way down the far side pitching docks and then fishing deep and pitching docks again. Nothing! I worked sections of the far shore power fishing in a slow moving bait manner. After getting to the nookachamps I went back to the pads and decided to just focus on my crank. Finally bam, I got hit and it was big. I realized pretty quick it wasn't a bass, but I still had to do a double take after getting it in the boat. I'm not sure how common it is to catch salmon in big lake but I was pretty amazed by it. No fish after that called it a day went to work.

Thanks, I was happy to get a pic for proof. After talking to some folks it's not quite as crazy as I originally thought, but still a cool experience.

Yes. It was only in like 5 feet of water, right next to the lily pads

nice fish! I got a trout behind pads in 1/2 foot of water on top water in October...surprised me too. I was pondering big lake but sounds like the bass are not biting.....

I never fished hard plastics until this year I tried to diversify from only fishing jigs and Texas rigged and I can't tell you how many fish I've caught that weren't bass . Big lake isn't a confidence lake for me, neither is November bass fishing. I always struggle to really let a bait sit on the bottom and fish as slow as I should when I dont know for sure whether or not theres bass there. I just told myself the salmon ate all the bass lol

plastics and bottom fishing are on my to do list for 2018...seems like its how you get the big one's...top water fishing has its limits...sounds like you had a good year.

Very nice. There are actually some resident coho in the lake, they are small though. Periodically coho coming up the Skagit do make a turn into the nookachamps and make their way into thw lake. First time Ive seen a picture of one landed though!
