I got to spend the weekend visiting my son and DIL in Great Falls, Montana for our annual three day weekend of pheasant hunting. I look forward to this trip immensely every year. The weather was perfect. I arrived Thursday and Matt and I got some trap shooting in to get the rust off, then we hunted Fri, Sat, and Sun.
Friday we hunted hard from daybreak to 5pm, following a small creek that had been good for us last year. This year, not so much. Not one bird did we flush (I should say, not one bird did Matt's dog Murphy flush). The GPS on Murphy checked in at 15 miles. That is one hunting crazy dog!
Saturday was better. We hunted private property and Murphy flushed/pointed around a dozen birds. We went 5 for 6 on roosters. A good day for sure!
Sunday we hunted a half day and only managed to flush two roosters, both missed by both of us. Oh well!
Love Montana and pheasant hunting with my son. So much fun hiking the land and watching Murphy work the fields!
