Another report ripped straight from the log book of that stalwart little craft "The Tin Guppy".
On Saturday my son was able to get away for a day of fishing which hasn't been happening near enough. We launched at Ft. Spokane around 8:30 and headed upriver to the Porcupine Bay area where I had done so well last week. The bite has slowed down a bit, we actually got both rods out and had to wait 5 minutes or so before the first hit. As you have probably guess that was on my orange Kekeda fly. BUT,, there is a new kid on the block that was getting lots of hits also. Capt. Dave had given us some new flys that he is making and they gave my old favorite a run for its money. We finished the day with 2 limits of RB and 1 Walleye. By the time we got around to giving the Walleye a try the wind had picked up and we could deal with it. Didn't get any of the bigger carryovers that caught last week just the standard 15-16 nice thick Rainbows. Sam caught one wild one which wasn't any bigger than the others but put on a very good show.
All in all a very good day but compared to last week I have to give it a 4.

Mark; Really enjoyed your report. Glad you had such good success. I have used the k-fly quite sucessfully too, but have never seen the shrimp fly you shared. Very interesting. Will have to give them a try over here also. Thanks for sharing. Tight lines always.

Not sure where to post this but I have started getting a new ad every time I change a page on this web site. Is this just me? I didn't get all these ads until just recently.

I am with you, it is very frustrating to have to week through the ads. One day they just started showing up, a lot of them. I have started not visiting the site as often because of them. But today, much better.

Mark: Hi. I’m trying to figure about how long the shrimp hook is. Looks like about an inch or so from the back of the bend to the eye of the hook?

Looks like it is 1.5 inches. I would like to suggest that you contact Capt. Dave's Guide Service and he will probably fix you up with some and then if you are your own bug builder I guess you could take it from there.

Hello strikezone. That one is built on a #2 Gamu Spey style streamer hook for Roosevelt. Smallee for your average Kokanee lakes, and a 1/0 big river for sockeye.

Mark; Thank you for Dave’s number. I will get ahold of him soon. Hope you are able to get back out there soon. There’s gonna be snow flakes and frozen roads here before long.

I keep an eye out for your SeaRunner when we're out, we'll pass each other one of these days. Thanks for a nice report and that shrimp fly looks great, might have to get in touch with Capt Dave myself. :-)

Mark- Hi. Hope you have been able to spend lots of time out on the lake catching fish. I'm heading out on Tuesday and was wondering if you've had any luck fishing the orange colored shrimp yet? I have both types coming hopefully before Tuesday. I'll be fishing strictly for rainbows. If you have, do you stay with the same smile blade and chartreuse bead? Orange OG1's seem to work real good over here on the WET side in the fall especially. Thanks.

I have to confess to being a smile blade addict. I hardly every put a fly out there without a smile blade, but in this case we ran the orange one without and got some fish with it also. It's just that we started with the pink one and couldn't really come up with an excuse to take it off. Generally with an orange fly I like the gold smile blade and with the pink a silver one. Really not to sure if a different colored smile blade on the pink would be a plus or not, just not nearly enough evidence to make a solid case. Capt. Dave's shrimp flies were new to me and the did good. Over the last few years the orange Kekeda with the gold smile blade and the small light green bead have been my standby.
