Fished the Hawk area on 10/12 and 10/18. Launched 7 Bays. Ambient air temp 36-37 both days - water temp on 10/12
was 61-62 and on 10/18 it was 59. Wx both days was good - a little more breeze on 10/18, but it dropped to calm. Both
mornings had convection fog on the water - slowed it down going into the creek area so as not to run into anybody already
there. Launch time both days was b/4 8:00 and take out after 2 - really nice fall wx both days. Fished flies exclusively both
days with 4 rods in the boat. Using my own tube flies - started with greens/yellow behind a small flasher and nothing - switched
to black and yellow and the bite was on, finished the day with 8 over 20", probably last years, and 2 @ 14" - through back a
couple of unclipped, not redbands though, just plain old net pen 'bows. Started 10/18 with the black/yellow fly, but high
cirrus and some mid level clouds came in with the breeze, switched to burnt orange.dark brown and they started biting again.
When the clouds cleared went back to the yellow and black. Bite on both days was typical trout - comes on, goes off - that
pattern was consistent both days. Moderate fishing pressure on 10/12, but crowded on 10/18 - guess the word is out. Troll
speed on 10/12 was 1.2-1.4, depth 16-18', Started troll on 10/18 at same depth and speed, but found them 24-26' and dropped
the speed to.9-1.0. The biting/hits varied - the larger ones clobbered the lure, the smaller ones lighter hits. 90% of all caught
both days were secured by the stinger hook - there lips seem kinda soft this year - a couple of the lures didn't have stingers
and we lost a few that way. Used a half a worm and a wad of power bait on the stinger.
