Well the fishing was hot. I would have caught more had not I been hit with a serious of unfortunate events.
I arrived at the lake at 820 am. with my son with me. He was more excited about eating snacks than fishing but helped me inflate the boat. I set up my gear first tried targeting some bass with no luck but got a couple of sunfish and a yellow perch while on that side of the lake. then I proceeded to row to the trout side of the lake. It was a beautiful day. Not too windy but some wind. My cutthroat gear was a green wedding ring and a bright green spinner with flasher. on my sons poll i added a small piece of worm. the trout hit all like mad. almost all hooked right in the lip and some threw the hook. I got many to the boat mostly not needing any bait. we kept one on my sons request. he would lay back relaxed like bringing in his fish.
I was trolling when a fish hit hard. that caused the clip part of my casting reel to put a screw and pretty soon I had no way to spool back in the line. I had to bring the line in by hand and by that time the trout was off. second best poll out of commission(ever found the screw).
So I set up my sons poll with the wedding ring and my best poll with the flasher set up. pretty soon fish on his little poll but the line got tangled with my best poll. I managed to untangle it but then I turned to see my best poll sinking to the bottom of the lake. the one that I have had since I was young. the poll my dad gave me. one of such vigor it has stayed in good condition for 20 years.. I know the spot it fell and really want to try and retrieve it. it is not replaceable. so there we were just one poll. one little Spiderman kid pole. We headed back to shore and continued to gets hits and one more fish. but sad day really. It did not end there though... I was deflating the boat and in a hurry. when a hook I had missed from a lure made a nice hole right in the inflatable boat. So it is we returned home with a boat in need of patching. one busted reel, my best rod and reel at the bottom of the lake. but lots of fun fishing moments with my son. He was really sad though about me losing my fishing pole though. But you all should come out and enjoy the fall crazy of cutthroat in the lake. Even action off the dock in the early morning. and if you should happen to pass the beach club dock and bring up a tan fishing rod with the word bass on it. it just might be my special rod and reel.

Sounds like quite an eventful day of fishing! I hope you have great luck salvaging for that special fishing rod. How big were the cutthroat?

It was a huge mix. I didn't pull in any massive ones into the boat but some that threw the hook right at the boat were probably in the 14-15 in range. I saw all kinds jumping and we brought to the boat some of keeping size and some smaller. I was catch and releasing them. as I was arriving a fellow was leaving with two very nice sized rainbows or cutbows. he had gotten there very early and I have spoken to others who arrive before 7 a.m and limit easy from the duck. some using bait..mostly worms with a very long leader or worms and bobber. I am sure there are some very bit ones to catch if you give it time.
