Have the week off from work to get the last of my coho fishing in before most everything shuts down. It's a shame there has been no asjustment of the season as it really looks like the coho forecast for the sound is way short of whats out there and what is still pouring through Seiku. There was a NOAH fisheries boat out at Deception Pass this morning doing a salmon survey.... maybe they pass along good news? Seems like they are always quick to shut things down, but rarely extend a season until it's too late.
Anyway, starting the morning floating a herring, but there wasnt much current, so after about 30 minutes I switched to a rotator. Good call, as after a few casts I landed a nice average hen just shy of 6lbs. That was it for me, and only saw 1 other fish caught while I was there. 1 other person was just leaving when I arrived with a fish.
Same drill as normal, cast out, let it sink a few seconds, then a fast straight retrieve.
