Mike Nielsen and I wrapped up our 6 1/2 day tiger musky expedition today. We caught and released 4 muskies from 16 lbs. to 31 lbs. Yesterday, the cloudy weather and cold water discouraged the fish, and we got only a couple of follows. Today's sunny weather and warmer water (67 to 68 degrees) improved the action considerably. We raised 11 muskies, had 3 strikes, 1 boated fish (43 inches and 20 lbs.), and 1 broke the line and took the lure. To summarize, fishing conditions this last week were challenging with the muskies hitting lures only during brief feeding periods of an hour or two, usually in mid-afternoon. The muskies are not very aggressive right now due to the cold water conditions, and are following more than biting. However, if we get some clear weather and warming water, the tiger muskies could remain fishable into October. I hope to be back at Merwin the last week of September.
